My older brother Chris, or CB, lives in Los Angeles and was able to attend the pilot taping of “David’s Situation”. Here is a quick, somewhat non-important recap.
David’s Situation it’s a sitcom the way Bob & David would do it - it is very funny and unique. They involve the audience and David even stopped mid-scene and picked up a mic and did 5 minutes of stand-up. At the end, they did a round-table discussion about the theme of that episode with special guest Andy Dick. Andy Dick? Really? Isn’t he a douche-bag? I’d say so but my brother says that Bob Odenkirk and Andy Dick are old friends from the Ben Stiller Show days. During the taping Bob was urging Andy to be kinda serious about the subject matter, cause it was something he knew something about … being famous for being scandalous, not for your talent. Bob went on to say that Andy is one of the funniest people he knows, but that it’s sad that he’s not known for that.
The idea of the show is that David has quit showbiz and moved to middle America. He has two roommates, Matt Besser (The hippie) and Eric Hoffman (the conservative). His neighbor is Mo Collins (MadTv) and her son Little David. There were guest appearances by John Ennis, Zach Galifiankis, BJ Porter and Scott Aukerman (Mr. Show writers and occasional actors).
There were a lot of comedians and actors at the shoot. Tim & Eric, Janeane Garofalo, Derek Waters, Nick Kroll, Dino Stamatopoulos, Jay Johnston, Steve Agee, Paul Scheer, Rob Huebel, Matt Walsh, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Tim Meadows and more.
